X's and O's
Chapter 6 is narrated by Scotty, who is now a janitor. Scotty is sitting at the park thinking about Bennie, who he recently found out is a record producer. He thinks about not thinking about Bennie, and ends up writing him a letter. Scotty goes fishing, and when he catches the biggest fish yet, he believes its some of Bennie’s luck rubbing off on him. He decides to go visit him. Scotty begins to wonder if everyone has the same experience over time. He tested this theory by “attending” a gala, only he stood outside the entire time. He wondered if he would have the same experience as those who were inside, He gets a pain and limped away. Scotty takes this fish and offers it to Bennie as a gift, he takes no action to accept it. Scotty realizes that they were no longer friends, and asks Bennie what happened between A and B.

He concludes that all humans are X’s and O’s, that was the bottom line, and that therefore we all processed things the same way, causing us to have the same experience, That at the end, working as a janitor and working in a fancy office was the same, Scotty claims that he can experience the same things as others without actually living them, but soon realizes that he is wrong ones his experiment fails. Scotty realizes that Bennie was different now, and that it was this differences brought on by time that imposed their friendship, He pinpoints two points A and B, A being back in the day when they were chasing the same girl and B being now, sitting across each other. The things that time brought on are what ultimately separated them.
