Pure Language
The chapter begins with Alex having a brunch with Bennie and their families. While being happy to have finally gotten a meeting with Bennie, he remembers Sasha, not by her name, as the one who first mentioned him. While the brunch continues he introduces his wife and daughter, Rebecca and Cara-Ann, and Bennie's wife and daughter, Lupa and Ava. As he and Bennie speak, he contemplates the new type of music that is being made to cater to the "pointers", young children who can point and therefore buy music. Later, Alex goes out into the night to consider people who can be used as "Parrots" for Bennie. When Alex meets Lulu, Bennie's assistant, they talk about their lives and what they do. Then Lulu asks if she can "T" Alex; she thinks it is easier than talking. Despite his, and Rebecca's, beliefs about handsets and other technology, he decides to allow Cara-Ann to "T" Lulu and play with his handset. Cara-Ann eventually gets her dad in trouble with her mom and she points out his new handset. Later, at one of Scotty's concerts, Alex meets with Bennie again. After Scotty freaks out they have Lulu calm him down and then Alex asks if Bennie knows Sasha, whose name he finally remembered. Later on, they go to see her at her apartment but find she has left and moved on in life.
Analysis
This chapter was perfect for ending the book as it brings closure to the stories about many of the characters. It brings together characters with entirely different backgrounds and inevitably makes the separate stories all blend together creating a single end for diverse people. Almost all of the characters had a sort of connection with each other through characters from their pasts (For Alex and Bennie, it was Sasha, for Lulu and Bennie, it was Dolly).
